At AdventHealth Orlando, formerly Florida Hospital Orlando, we have built one of the largest comprehensive emergency rooms in the United States designed to maximize quality and efficiency of care. Our 62,000-square-foot facility is capable of treating 90,000 emergency cases a year — including thoracic and general surgery, orthopedics, neurology and neurosurgery, cardiology, pediatrics and internal medicine. Plus, an integrated medical-imaging center reduces the time it takes to perform vital MRI, CT and PET scans.
We have highly skilled clinicians and specific ER protocols in place, around the clock, to rapidly treat severe heart attack and stroke symptoms. And, we have built strategic partnerships with Emergency Medical Services (EMS) teams, which allow for life-saving emergency medical treatments to be administered to patients before they even arrive at our emergency room. We’re also home to Central Florida’s first Code STEMI rapid response program that can actually stop a heart attack in progress.

Urgent Care or ER: When to Go to the Closest Emergency Room
You know your body and you know when something's not right. When your body is trying to tell you something — if you’re seized by sudden pain or having a severe allergic reaction — listen. And trust your instincts. Call 911 immediately to be taken to the closest ER if you experience any of the following:
- Broken Bones
- Complicated Fractures
- Deep Wounds
- Extreme Difficulty Breathing
- Major Head Injury
- Poisoning
- Severe Allergic Reactions
- Severe Burns
- Suspected Heart Attack
- Suspected Stroke
- Vomiting or Coughing Up Blood

What to Expect When You Visit the ER
In an emergency situation, you may feel worried and confused. You'll have a lot of questions, and we’ll be here to answer each one. We’ll have some questions for you, too, because the more we know, the more quickly and effectively we can treat you. First, we’ll ask for basic information like your medical history and the reason for your visit. After we take your vital signs, we’ll decide on the best way to help you.
Because we’re dedicated to bringing you timely care in our 24-hour emergency rooms, we prioritize using a process known as triage. This means a later-arriving patient suffering from a suspected stroke may receive treatment sooner than someone else in a non-critical condition. But you can be confident we’ll do all we can to reduce our ER wait times, so we can bring you timely, effective emergency medical treatments.

That way you can find care more quickly. A Young Life Saved with Expert Emergency Care
After passing out suddenly in his home, Chris Cooper was rushed to AdventHealth East Orlando’s Emergency Department where his heart was restarted 11 times. He was then airlifted to AdventHealth Orlando, where it was discovered that he had blood clots in his lungs. He then spent 21 days in a coma and on the ECMO unit with a special pump that served as an artificial lung. After extensive rehabilitation and an expert team by his side along his journey, Chris is now living an active, healthy life.
