Florida Hospital today released its annual Community Benefit Report, which details the financial contributions the organization made in Central Florida through charity care, educational funding and its support of local organizations and initiatives.

Florida Hospital provided more than $129 million in charity care in Central Florida in 2015. At the same time, the organization contributed more than $81 million to support community projects, research, health professions education and other programs.

When faith-based care, capital investments and other benefits are tallied, Florida Hospitals total community benefit in Central Florida topped $919 million in 2015.

For more than 100 years, Florida Hospital has been dedicated to extending the healing ministry of Christ. This commitment reaches beyond the hospital walls often in ways outside of traditional health care, said Yamile Luna, assistant vice president of Florida Hospital Community Impact and Volunteer Services. We are privileged to care for our neighbors, and also support and partner with other organizations that promote health and wellness in Central Florida.

Among the items in the Community Benefit Report are projects funded by the Community Health Impact Council, known as CHIC. CHIC's primary goal is to address the needs of targeted populations, including the underserved and uninsured, while reducing preventable medical costs and interventions. CHIC approves, funds and measures initiatives that improve the overall health of the Central Florida community.

Florida Hospital is also launching a new website that features the Community Benefit Report, stories about CHIC projects, as well as many resources provided by the organizations Community Impact and Volunteer Services department.

The stories of projects supported by Florida Hospital include the Fresh Stop mobile bus, Healthy Eatonville Place and the Hope Clinic, to name a few. The website also is a great resource to learn about volunteer opportunities at Florida Hospital and in the community.
