Hope Trees Spring Up at AdventHealth Locations Across Central Florida to Mark World Cancer Day

ORLANDO, Fla., Feb. 2, 2017

AdventHealth is recognizing World Cancer Day with Hope Trees that will be placed at each Central Florida campus. These trees, which were introduced in a ceremony at AdventHealth Orlando, will provide an opportunity for individuals to write and hang messages of support for those affected by cancer.

The Hope Trees will be available until the end of February, when the messages of hope will then be collected and distributed to cancer patients at AdventHealth. The community can contribute messages, either by visiting a AdventHealth campus in person, or online via Twitter using the hashtag #hopetrees.

Many cancer patients and their families go through a range of emotions while dealing with the disease, said Christian Taylor, AdventHealth’s oncology chaplain. To offer them that support that will accompany them for when they’re feeling down or a little bit sad goes a long way. For a random person to come in and write a message saying I support you, Ive been through this, or Im praying for you, will be so inspiring for people on that journey.

Kids Beating Cancers founder Margaret Guedes, also presented a check for $200,000 to the AdventHealth Foundation that will go to support AdventHealth for Children’s pediatric bone marrow transplant program.

Its an incredible opportunity for us to give to an organization that is so passionate about helping kids, said Guedes. Cancer is tough for everyone, but especially so for the young children and their families.

World Cancer Day is an annual event designed to encourage conversation about cancer across the globe. The Union of International Cancer Control, the group responsible for World Cancer Day, aims to reduce cancer deaths by 25 percent by 2025.
