On Monday, October 7, approximately 20 high school students were invited to AdventHealth Parker to learn more about a career in nursing. The students are part of the Douglas County School District’s Legacy Campus and are enrolled in the Certified Nurse’s Aide (CNA) program. The mission of the Legacy Campus is to provide relevant learning opportunities to ensure students are ready for the workforce.

The students first took a tour of AdventHealth Parker, before hearing from some of our nursing staff about their career paths.

“In the 20 years I’ve been a nurse, I’ve done a lot of different work. That’s what is so great about nursing, it’s really adaptable to changes in your life. As we do different things, have families, there are so many opportunities to work a different shift and learn a new skill,” said educator Kara Blair.

Our team stressed the importance of CNAs to the hospital, highlighting their strengths and skills.

“In my career, it was the CNAs who always taught me the most about patient care,” said educator Dani Andrews. “Being a CNA teaches you how to be resilient and creative, and also how to be flexible and think outside the box.”

Our team members also gave the students some helpful advice as they think about their futures.

“You’re so lucky to have this program, so be sure to take advantage of it!” said educator Jesus Rivera. “Being a CNA your whole career would be a great role, and it is also a great stepping stone to other options, like becoming a registered nurse or even a nurse practitioner.”

AdventHealth Parker is proud to partner with the Douglas County School District to support the next generation of nurses!
