AdventHealth Medical Group this week welcomed a leading cardiologist to the health system’s growing Heart and Vascular Institute. Michelle Dew, MD, FACC, who has worked as a general cardiologist at practices in and around Greater Kansas City for more than 15 years, will initially see patients in AdventHealth’s primary care office in Lawrence, Kan., with expansion into Johnson County in late 2023. She also will establish the three-hospital system’s regional women’s heart care program.

Dr. Dew’s arrival marks the expansion of AdventHealth’s heart care services to Lawrence, which becomes the Cardiology group’s sixth location. As a general cardiologist Board-certified in cardiovascular disease, Dr. Dew will provide a broad scope of adult heart care services. Her clinical interests include women’s cardiac issues including during pregnancy and menopause, men’s cardiac care and general cardiac care such as prevention, maintenance and pre- and post-surgical care. Guided by a passion for patient and community education, she has presented and published extensively on heart disease prevention, women’s heart health and other cardiology topics.

Among her peers, Dr. Dew is well respected as a physician leader and heart care expert, and she has held a number of clinical and administrative leadership roles. Her extensive list of clinical accolades includes being named a Kansas City Top Doctor by Kansas City magazine in 2021 and 2022 and Internal Medicine Consultant of the Year by Truman Medical Center. Before joining AdventHealth, Dr. Dew worked at cardiology offices across the region—in Kansas City North, Lansing, Leavenworth, Chillicothe, Trenton and on the Country Club Plaza—that are affiliated with a large healthcare system in Missouri.

“Dr. Dew’s reputation for both excellent patient care and outstanding clinical leadership precedes her, and we are honored she chose to join our Heart and Vascular Institute team,” said Vickie Franck, administrator for the AdventHealth Heart and Vascular Institute. “With heart disease being the leading cause of death for women in the U.S., Dr. Dew’s leadership in developing our women’s heart care program will be vital for women across the region.”

Dr. Dew joins 24 outpatient cardiology providers in AdventHealth Medical Group Cardiology and Cardiovascular Surgery. In addition to the newly minted Lawrence office, the cardiology group has five other offices across northeast Kansas: Merriam, Kansas City, Lansing, Ottawa and southern Overland Park.
