AdventHealth Sports Park at Bluhawk Opens with Grand Celebration, Setting a New Standard for Sports and Entertainment in Overland Park

Group celebration

OVERLAND PARK, Kan., The highly anticipated AdventHealth Sports Park at Bluhawk celebrated its grand opening on Saturday, October 26, marking a transformative moment for sports and entertainment in the region. Developed through a collaborative effort between AdventHealth, Price Brothers, and The Sports Facilities Companies (SFC), the state-of-the-art venue is expected to attract 3.8 million annual visitors, offering world-class amenities and experiences to athletes and fans alike.

The grand opening ceremonies kicked off with a VIP ribbon-cutting ceremony on Friday, October 25. Several speeches were delivered by key participants, including General Manager Greg Jackson, Kansas state Rep. Sean Tarwater, Mayor Curt Skoog of Overland Park, Kent Price and Bart Lowen, The Price Brothers’ president/partner and vice president of development, respectively, SFC Senior Vice President of Development Services Jake Whittaker, and AdventHealth Mid-America Region CEO, Sam Huenergardt.

At 260,000 square feet, the first completed phase of the 420,000-square-foot venue features an NHL regulation-sized ice rink, eight basketball courts (convertible to 16 volleyball/pickleball courts), a 40,000-square-foot turf field, locker rooms, a training area, a café, a bar/grill, and more. The family entertainment center is home to arcade games, bowling, laser tag, an Esports center, sports simulators, and a roll glider.

Our mission is to dramatically improve the health and economic vitality in the communities that we serve,” said Patrick O’Brien, vice president of venue management for The Sports Facilities Companies. “We have the privilege to manage facilities like Bluhawk all over the country, but this is a shining star. This is one of the most diverse venues that we will manage and are managing.”

On October 26, the community grand opening celebration delighted over 5,000 visitors with a first look at the sports complex and previewed the next phase plans for The Boundary at Bluhawk, an engaging live-work-play community that promises to be a dynamic asset for the community and region. The event was free and open to the public; gift bags were distributed, and attendees had the opportunity to explore and participate in various activities.

“The AdventHealth Sports Park at Bluhawk isn’t just about competitive play on the many playing surfaces, the state-of-the-art amenities, or even the barrage of entertainment; it’s about impact. Impact on the lives of our residents, commercial tenants, team members, business partners, and the community,” said Bart Lowen, vice president of development for the Price Brothers.

After AdventHealth purchased the adjacent land from Price Brothers in 2013 to build their new hospital, Bluhawk broke new ground with a vision of a best-in-the-class sports park coexisting with a lifestyle center.

“We are thrilled to be the naming rights partner for this one-of-a-kind facility,” said Sam Huenergardt, CEO of AdventHealth Mid-America Region. “As healthcare providers, we recognize the important role sports and exercise play in preventing chronic disease, as well as the mental health benefits of physical activity, including reduced anxiety and improved mood, especially in teenagers and young adults.”

The AdventHealth Sports Park at Bluhawk has already begun to generate national and regional traffic for tournaments and events for The Boundary at Bluhawk.
