When to Head to the Closest Emergency Room
If you’re experiencing a life-threatening situation, call 911 immediately to be taken to the emergency room closest to you. Typical emergency situations include (but are not limited to):

• Complicated fractures
• Deep wounds
• Extreme difficulty breathing
• Major head injury
• Poisoning
• Severe allergic reactions
• Severe burns
• Suspected heart attack
• Suspected stroke
• Vomiting or coughing up blood

You can find 24-hour emergency care from AdventHealth, formerly Florida Hospital Heartland, in three convenient locations on our Sebring, Lake Placid and Wauchula campuses. In each one, our teams of experienced health care specialists are committed to bringing you relief, comfort, and healing as soon as possible.

What to Expect When You Visit Our ER
When you visit our 24-hour emergency room, you'll want to know what’s happening and why. Our team members will do all they can to answer your questions, because we know it’s easier to rest and heal when your mind is at ease. We’ll also have some questions for you, because when we know more about you, we can treat you more quickly and successfully. After asking for basic information, we’ll take your vital signs. Then we’ll decide how best to care for you.

We prioritize your care through a process known as triage, which can make all the difference for those people in critical condition. At times, this means we’ll treat a person suffering from a suspected stroke as soon as they arrive, before someone with a less serious condition. No matter the case, we always strive to keep our emergency wait times as short as possible, so that you can find the help and relief you need. You can count on us when your health depends on speedy, accurate care.

Being prepared can make all the difference in an emergency, and you may want to consider keeping an information card with you at all times, in a convenient location such as your wallet or purse. Include the contact information for your primary care physician, as well as a list of your medications, drug allergies, and advance directives (like health care proxy or do-not-resuscitate orders).

When your illness or injury isn't life- or limb-threatening, our conveniently located urgent care clinics are here to help you — no appointment necessary. You can rely on our highly trained teams to deliver compassionate care and support for a range of minor illnesses and injuries, including:

We accept most major insurance plans, helping you make your treatment less stressful. And to help you stay healthier for longer, we offer various preventive services, including flu shots, EKGs and physical exams. Our whole-person approach to care means we’ll be by your side at every step, guiding you toward a life of comfort and confidence.

For minor ailments, our video visits are a convenient service that lets you speak with a physician or nurse practitioner from the comfort of your own home. All you need is an internet connection via your smartphone, tablet or desktop. We offer virtual appointments for a number of minor conditions, including:

• Conjunctivitis (pink eye)
• Cough, colds, bronchitis and flu
• Lower-back pain
• Seasonal allergies
• Sinus and upper-respiratory infections
• Skin conditions
• Urinary tract infections
