Our certified diabetes educators are available for outpatient education and counseling. In addition to individual visits, we offer Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning classes to teach you how to improve your blood sugar control, gain self-confidence to manage diabetes, and learn what to eat at home and when dining out. Additional services include training for blood glucose monitoring and insulin administration as well as meal planning. Our services are billable to insurance. We offer a free monthly Living Well With Diabetes class open to all community members as well as a free After Your Hospital Stay class for anyone recently discharged from AdventHealth Shawnee Mission with diabetes. Our clinic provides comprehensive treatment and focused education to help you stay well and reduce your chances of being readmitted to the hospital. Our specialized care includes medications for heart failure, including fluid management, and early detection of changes in your condition to help maximize your quality of life. We operate a full-service pharmacy inside AdventHealth Shawnee Mission near the main entrance. Pharmacists are available to answer questions about medications prescribed by your physician. The pharmacy takes most major insurance and is open Monday to Friday, 9 am to 5:30 pm.

Medical records may be obtained by completing an authorization form. The personal health information request may be obtained at AdventHealthKC.com or from the health information department on the first floor, Monday to Friday, 8:30 am to 4 pm. You can also call Call913-676-2267 to have a form mailed to you.

Radiology films are available in the film library Monday to Friday, 7 am to 5 pm. Please call 24 hours in advance to make arrangements. Films may be released only to patients or physicians. Written authorization or power of attorney is required for anyone else to pick up your films. Films completed prior to 2004 will be the originals and must be returned. Copies after 2005 will be mailed to you.

For answers to your health questions 24/7, or to find a physician, call the AdventHealth NurseLine at Call913-676-7777. A free service staffed by registered nurses, NurseLine can also schedule appointments with AdventHealth Medical Group physicians and register you for classes offered by AdventHealth, including parent education, CPR, yoga and more.

AdventHealth’s cardiac rehabilitation combines education, counseling and ECG-monitored exercise for patients who have experienced a heart attack, heart surgery, cardiac stent, CHF or stable angina. Physician referral is required. Hours of operation are Monday, Wednesday and Friday, 7:30 am to 5:15 pm.

AdventHealth’s pulmonary rehabilitation helps improve lung health by combining education and supervised exercise. The program is primarily designed for patients with moderate to severe chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, but can also be used for other lung diseases. Physician referral is required. Hours of operation are Tuesday and Thursday, 8:30 am to 5 pm.

Clinical dietitians provide individual counseling including a comprehensive nutritional assessment according to your medical history, clinical status, medications, laboratory data and diet history. The intervention will also include a detailed treatment plan, education and appropriate guidance materials to use at home. The nutritional assessment and treatment plan will be shared with your health care providers so the information can be integrated into your overall medical care. All adult inpatients at AdventHealth Shawnee Mission are screened for possible risk for obstructive sleep apnea as part of the admission process. Untreated sleep apnea may impact your overall health and well-being by increasing chances of driving accidents and leading to complications such as high blood pressure, heart attack and stroke.

Fully accredited by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine to diagnose and treat all sleep disorders, the Sleep Center meets or exceeds the extensive standards set by the AASM, ensuring you will receive the highest quality of care. Additionally, Medical Director Michael Nelson, MD, is Board-certified in Sleep Medicine.

If you are identified as possibly being at risk, please discuss this with your physician at your follow-up visit to see if further evaluation is needed.
