Located at 86th Street and Renner Boulevard, AdventHealth Lenexa City Center will be a 25-acre mixed-use campus with a variety of medical and retail services. The first phase of development will feature the 98-bed hospital and a three-story, 56,000-square-foot medical office building and represents a $247 million investment. The full-service hospital will include an emergency department, surgical services, intensive care unit, heart care and more, and will be the first and only inpatient hospital in Lenexa, Kan.

Foundation and grading work began in summer of 2022. The ceremonial turn of the dirt in April 2023 commemorated the official start of construction, and phase one of the project is expected to be complete by mid-2025.

“Completing the vertical construction marks an important milestone not only in the project, but in our growth in the Lenexa area,” said Sam Huenergardt, CEO of AdventHealth Mid-America Region. “Our growth reflects the trust our patients have placed in AdventHealth, and we don’t take that for granted. We look forward to delivering exceptional, whole-person care for patients on this campus beginning next year.”

After a planned topping out celebration was canceled due to inclement weather, the final beam was brought to AdventHealth Shawnee Mission where all staff and special guests, including AdventHealth President and Chief Executive Officer Terry Shaw and City of Lenexa Mayor Julie Sayers, had an opportunity to sign their names and leave their mark on history.

“We are pleased to bring essential health services to our rapidly growing city,” said City of Lenexa Mayor Julie Sayers. “It has been exciting to watch the progress of this project in Lenexa City Center and this ceremony has brought us one step closer to opening a free-standing hospital in the heart of our community. We are grateful to have AdventHealth, a nationally renowned and trusted health system, as a part of Lenexa that will provide care to our residents and visitors."

To design, build and develop the new campus, AdventHealth has partnered with Henderson Engineers, HKS, Inc. Architects, Bob D. Campbell and Co. and Renaissance Infrastructure Consulting, Jacobs Engineering Group, Inc. and GE Johnson Construction Co.

AdventHealth Lenexa City Center will be the health system’s fourth full-service hospital in Kansas, in addition to AdventHealth Shawnee Mission in Merriam, AdventHealth South Overland Park and AdventHealth Ottawa. AdventHealth has had a campus in Lenexa since 2008 – AdventHealth Prairie Star off Prairie Star Parkway – which includes the Bariatric Center of Kansas City, an emergency department and a variety of medical offices. AdventHealth Medical Group Primary Care at Lenexa is also located in Lenexa City Center.

Additionally, AdventHealth Lenexa City Center recently named Sissel Jacob as president and CEO of the new hospital, effective July 29.
