AdventHealth Shawnee Mission Offers Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) to Behavioral Health Patients

KANSAS CITY, Kan., November 17, 2023 — AdventHealth Shawnee Mission is now offering a noninvasive procedure that uses magnetic fields to stimulate nerve cells in the brain called Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS). Since opening a new Behavioral Health Clinic in February, the practice is now able to expand its offerings while creating an intentional and welcoming space in a healing environment.

“We have seen impactful results since offering TMS to patients,” said AdventHealth’s Administrative Director of Clinical Services Rennie Shuler-McKinney, MS, LCP. “TMS is a great outpatient option for patients battling depression and obsessive-compulsive disorder. Our Behavioral Health team at AdventHealth Shawnee Mission is committed to helping patients find the best solution and treatments that work for them, so I am incredibly grateful that we are now able to offer another solution to helping patients reclaim their true self.”

Deep TMS has been shown to safely and effectively treat major depressive disorder, anxious depression and obsessive-compulsive disorder. The treatment sends magnetic pulses to targeted areas through a helmet worn on the patient’s head while comfortably seated in a chair, awake and alert. The magnetic pulses feel like mild tapping on the scalp and patients can resume daily activities immediately after each treatment session.
