- Your First Step is a Comprehensive Fertility Evaluation
-
Our experts are dedicated to finding the cause of your infertility and providing comprehensive, compassionate care. Some of the many potential conditions that may be affecting your fertility include:
- Blocked fallopian tubes
- Endometriosis
- Irregular ovulation
- Ovarian cysts
- Pelvic inflammatory disease
- Polycystic ovary syndrome
- Primary ovarian insufficiency
- Sexually transmitted infections (STIs)
- Uterine fibroids
Your comprehensive fertility evaluation may include a physical examination, genetic testing, lab work and imaging tests, such as laparoscopy, transvaginal ultrasound or X-ray.
- Know the Risk Factors of Female Infertility
-
Many factors that can lead to female infertility don’t come to light until you actively begin trying to grow your family. And while there are some factors you can’t change, like advanced maternal age or family history, there are other ways to reduce your risk of infertility. These areas include:
- Body weight: Maintaining an optimal body mass index (BMI) helps a woman’s reproductive system function at its best. Regular ovulation depends on balanced hormone levels, and too much or too little body fat can interfere with your body’s estrogen levels.
- Diet: A diet consisting of foods high in trans fats, animal protein and processed foods can play a role in your fertility levels, as there is a correlation between a high-fat diet and weight gain and polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS).
- Limit alcohol: While trying to conceive, consider abstaining or limiting your alcohol intake, and avoid it entirely if you suspect you may be pregnant. Alcohol can also exacerbate endometriosis and affect your ovulation.
- Practice safe sex: Sexually transmitted infections can impact your fertility. It’s important to keep up with your annual OB/GYN checkups and seek treatment immediately if you think you may have contracted an STI.
- Smoking: Quitting cigarette smoking is one way to boost your chances of conceiving and having a healthy pregnancy.
