Almost two decades ago, we were the first hospital in a five-state area to use the da Vinci surgical robot, allowing Kansas City residents to benefit from minimally invasive techniques and shorter recovery times. The Shull Institute for Surgical Robotics continues to offer robotic procedures that help you get back to life sooner. We take a team approach, our surgeons and staff alike, to improve your experience and surgical outcomes.

The da Vinci is used for a variety of procedures at AdventHealth Shawnee Mission including urology, gynecology, pelvic floor reconstructions oftentimes to treat issues such as incontinence or prolapse, as well as benign and cancerous surgeries, including gynecologic, colorectal and general surgeries. Surgeons are able to operate the da Vinci from a computer that controls a surgical arm unit. The magnification of the camera is 10 times higher than what can be seen by the human eye.

We also have resources to help you better prepare for your surgery, so you can feel ready for what comes next. After your procedure, we'll escort you to your room and create a tailored plan for your recovery and keep you informed at every step.

AdventHealth Shawnee Mission offers GetWell TV, a patient interactive television system (if you stay overnight) that enables patients to watch movies, view and engage in on-demand educational and relaxation videos, complete surveys, view the Internet, play games and get a variety of hospital information all with the click of a remote. This system offers instructional videos on post-operative care at home.
