Expanding Markets: From 2000 to Today
The early 2000s was a time of significant expansion for AdventHealth as we grew our footprint well past the Central Florida market into the West Florida region and beyond.
At the start of the new millennium, we made a pivotal shift in our brand to unify the identity of our health care system. In 2019, what was once 30 brands under Adventist Health System — including Florida Hospital — became one unified name: AdventHealth. A New Millennium: Expanding Our Horizons

2000: Tom Werner Becomes CEO
January 1, 2000 - Tom Werner becomes Adventist Health System’s (AdventHealth) new president/CEO.

2000: Merger with Memorial Health Systems (AdventHealth Daytona Beach and AdventHealth DeLand)
Following a long relationship with Florida Hospital and after facing some financial hardships, Memorial Health Systems approached Adventist Health System (now AdventHealth) about a possible merger. Memorial Health Systems chose to merge with Adventist Health System because of our commitment to quality, trust in leadership and focus on mission.
