WINTER GARDEN, Fla. — AdventHealth Winter Garden has received accreditation as a Center of Excellence in Hernia Surgery, a designation that recognizes the hospital’s high standard of quality patient care and safety. The certification was issued by the Surgical Review Corporation (SRC), an internationally recognized, nonprofit patient-safety organization dedicated to recognizing and refining surgical care.

“The achievement of this accreditation reflects AdventHealth Winter Garden's commitment to providing the highest standard of care to its hernia patients from the first consultation through postoperative care,” said Dr. Miles Bennett, chief medical officer at AdventHealth Winter Garden. “We are proud to receive this certification, which validates our commitment to our patients' health and safety.”
The hospital is the first in Central Florida to receive this accreditation.
"In achieving this accreditation, our surgeons demonstrate their commitment to ensuring hernia patients receive the highest quality care,” said Dr. Jorge L. Florin, general surgeon and director of Hernia Center at AdventHealth Winter Garden. “Our goal is to provide our West Orange County community with world-class, patient-focused care.”
“Hernias affect our patients’ quality of life,” said Dr. Alexander Schroeder, general surgeon and co-director of Hernia Center at AdventHealth Winter Garden. “The hernia center puts the focus on the patient as a whole.”
Health care facilities seeking an SRC accreditation undergo an extensive assessment and inspection process to ensure the applicant meets SRC’s proven standards and requirements. These requirements include surgical volumes, facility equipment, clinical pathways and standardized operating procedures, an emphasis on patient education and continuous quality assessment. Inspectors educate staff in the accredited departments on best practices to help an organization improve its care and services.
“We’re proud to recognize AdventHealth Winter Garden for its commitment to advancing and providing quality care for all patients,” said Gary M. Pratt, CEO of SRC. “This accreditation signals that this facility is among the best in this specialty and is dedicated to delivering the highest level of care possible.”
