Professional Nursing at AdventHealth Avista
Professional Nursing contributes to care of patients at AdventHealth Avista and the surrounding community through the following services:
- Cardiology Care
-
Our highly trained nurse practitioners coordinate cardiac testing for the early identification of heart disease. Our nurses in the Cardiac Catheterization Lab collaborate with the Emergency Department to provide prompt interventions, reducing the negative effects of heart attacks. Telemetry nurses provide inpatients with support and monitoring to manage cardiac symptoms.
- Emergency and Trauma Care
-
Our emergency and trauma nurses drove the implementation of protocols providing the optimum outcomes for opioid reduction, stroke, sepsis, geriatric, and heart attack patients. Nurses complete rapid triage to decrease patient wait times and provide prompt emergency care. Nurses support the achievement and care provided through the hospital’s Level III Trauma Certification.
- Intensive Care
-
Our nurses in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) care for patients in need of critical care around the clock. These critically ill patients require highly skilled nursing interventions. ICU nurses have worked to reduce patient infections and improve patient comfort, supporting the patient and their family members.
- Joint and Spine
-
Nurses provide pre- and postoperative care to patients undergoing surgery for joint replacement and spine surgery. Nurses educate patients and their families about surgery preparation, recovery and how to set goals to get back to doing what makes them whole. Nurses prioritize early mobilization and pain management to help prepare patients for safety inside and outside the hospital.
- Medical, Surgical and Telemetry Care
-
Nurses are specially trained in the general medical and surgical care of patients. They provide compassionate care to patients and their families from diagnosis through treatment and any necessary surgical interventions. They work closely with doctors, therapists, stroke and sepsis coordinators, telemetry cardiac monitoring and case management to ensure safety and that whole patient care is provided.
- Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)
-
Nurses comprise the largest portion of the multidisciplinary team, providing exceptional care to infants requiring intensive care. They collaborate to achieve the best clinical outcomes, follow evidence-based practice and provide compassionate care. Family-centered care practices, including infant-parent bonding, support and education, are provided throughout the infants' hospitalizations. An outpatient lactation clinic provides essential feeding follow-up after hospital discharge.
- Neurology Care
-
Nurses collaborate with the interprofessional team to provide care to patients through the diagnosis, treatment, and surgical intervention process. We staff a nurse stroke coordinator who leads the AdventHealth Avista Stroke Certification process, ensuring top-level care for stroke patients as a Designated Primary Stroke Center part of a stroke care system.
- Outpatient Care
-
Nurses support patients who may not need an inpatient stay but need care and treatment. Our endoscopy nurses prepare and care for patients needing procedures like endoscopies or colonoscopies with care based on professional nursing practice standards. Infusion center nurses provide compassionate care to our diverse patient populations. Oncology nurses have specialized training in chemotherapy and immunotherapy administration. Nurses also offer intravenous antibiotics and other needed medications. Interventional radiology nurses support patients through skilled diagnostic procedures to inform their health care and receive treatment. Pain clinic nurses provide comforting and compassionate care to patients seeking pain-relieving therapies.
- Perioperative Services
-
Our nurses care for patients from the pre-operative assessment to the intra-operative intervention through the postoperative recovery period using guidelines, knowledge, judgment and evidence-based practices. Nursing care is focused on maintaining a safe perioperative environment with attention to age-appropriate, ethical and culturally sensitive care observing AORN practice standards.
- Women and Newborn Care
-
Nurses support families preparing for the birth process through community-based birth and preparation classes. Nurses work with families before birth to develop a birth plan and support the individual birthing experience. Each patient and family are supported through the newborn experience, breastfeeding and infant care.
