Colorado EOLOA

The Colorado End-of-Life Options Act (the “Act”) authorizes certain health care providers to deliver medical aid to qualifying patients in dying and allows a terminally ill adult to end their life peacefully. The patient must meet several requirements, including:

• Residency in Colorado
• A prognosis of six months or less
• Mental capacity to make an informed decision
• Has requested and obtained a prescription for medical aid-in-dying medication
• Other requirements, as may be set forth in the Act

Colorado law recognizes certain rights and responsibilities of qualified patients and health care providers under the Act. This includes that a health care provider and staff at AdventHealth are not required to assist a qualified patient in ending that patient’s life.

AdventHealth has decided not to participate in the Colorado End-of-Life Options Act. Health care providers and AdventHealth, and related health care service locations, may still provide all other requested end-of-life and palliative care and other services to patients and families.

Any AdventHealth patient who desires to request medical aid-in-dying medication permitted under the Act, will be assisted in transfer to another facility of the patient’s choice.
