— AdventHealth Manchester, in partnership with the Cumberland Valley District Health Department and the Kentucky Cancer Program, hosted the March on Colon Cancer on Wednesday, March 27th, from 4:00pm to 5:00pm at Rawlings and Stinson Park. The event featured educational sessions and on-site providers to answer questions about colon cancer awareness and prevention.
"We are so grateful for the amazing turnout and the support from our community partners," said Tammy Pennington from the Cumberland Valley District Health Department. "We hope that this event will inspire more people to take action and get screened for colon cancer, as early detection can save lives."
Participants learned more about colon cancer risk factors, symptoms, and screening options from AdventHealth's General Surgeon, Dr. Gregory Wilkens; APRN, Shonda Tucker; and other healthcare professionals. They also had the opportunity to take an online colon cancer risk assessment to see if they are at risk for colon cancer or to learn more at ManchesterColonAwareness.com. Attendees were encouraged to wear dark blue to the event, as this color represents colon cancer awareness.
"We are proud to be part of this important initiative and to offer our expertise and resources to our community," said Sissel Jacob, President and CEO of AdventHealth Manchester. "We want to empower people to take charge of their health and to prevent colon cancer, which is one of the most common and preventable cancers in the United States."
AdventHealth Manchester thanks all the participants, volunteers, and sponsors who made this event possible, and who joined the March on Colon Cancer. For more information about AdventHealth Manchester and its services, please visit AdventHealthManchester.com.
