Celebrating Women's History Month with Kandi Bowling

Kandi Bowling is a Certified Phlebotomist and has served at AdventHealth Manchester for 23 years. As a medical assistant, she had the opportunity to work at the University of Kentucky’s Kentucky Clinic before joining the team at AdventHealth Manchester in 1999.

Kandi always knew she wanted to work in the medical field, so she made the decision to pursue a career as a phlebotomist. Kandi worked through the difficult required materials and successfully completed her goal of obtaining her phlebotomy certification. As she reflected on her career journey, Kandi shared this valuable advice to anyone interested in entering the medical field, “always remember that patients are someone's beloved family member and to treat them the way you would want someone to treat your own family. The Bible says we never know how the Lord will present himself to us.”

For Kandi, the most rewarding aspect of her job is knowing that she had a small part in making someone's stressful day a little better. Though it can be difficult to see less fortunate patients who are struggling, Kandi always offers them an encouraging word and works diligently to provide each patient with compassionate care. She also tries to listen to her patients, not only the words they say, but also their nonverbal cues. She believes that this helps her better understand and serve her patients.

When asked what motivates her in her daily work, she shared that her daughter, Taylor, has always been her top motivation. She wants Taylor to be proud of her work and the compassion she has for her patients.

When discussing her experience at AdventHealth Manchester, Kandi shared how much she appreciates that all the different departments work together with a common goal of extending the healing ministries of Christ. Being a full-time mom of a daughter who played dual sports and a full-time employee took a lot of time management. Kandi shared that she was blessed to have wonderful coworkers who were willing to trade shifts when needed, so she rarely missed any of Taylor's games or competitions.
