-
Many conditions can cause joint pain. The most common cause of joint pain is cartilage damage. This may be from injury, wear and tear or arthritis in the joint. As a result, the joint becomes less mobile and painful. If a patient is not responding well to conservative methods, your orthopedic provider may recommend surgery.
Together, we’ll discuss the different options for your care and help you prepare for your surgery. Before your procedure, we’ll be sure you feel confident and empowered about what to expect before, during and after.
- Total Joint Replacement
-
While the primary goal of joint replacement surgery is to relieve your joint pain, it can also help you regain joint function, correct deformities and/or prevent further damage. Together, we’ll create a plan that helps you move easier and pain-free.
We are honored to offer joint replacement surgeries for both the knee and hip. Learn more about what you can expect during your surgery.
Hip Replacement Surgery
Your orthopedic surgeon will remove the head of the thigh bone and hip socket and replace them with an artificial joint designed to move like a healthy hip joint. Typically, the artificial ball and stem are of strong metal or ceramic. The artificial socket is made of polyethylene (a strong plastic) or metal backed with a plastic liner.
Total Knee Replacement
During your total knee replacement surgery, your orthopedic knee surgeon will remove the damaged joint. Then, the artificial joint will be anchored in place with bone cement. Sometimes, the joint is covered with material that will allow bone tissue to grow into the artificial joint. Your orthopedic surgeon will discuss, in detail, each step of your surgery.
- Rehabilitation for Joint Replacement Surgery
-
Surgery isn’t the only tool to help relieve your joint pain. Rehabilitation therapy is key in helping you regain your strength, improve flexibility and help you move with confidence. At AdventHealth Redmond, your therapy is a collaborative effort between your orthopedic surgeon, physical therapist and, most importantly, you.
Whether it's getting back into sports or playing with your grandkids, together, we'll help you get back to what matters most. We’ll provide the education and information you need to make healthy choices throughout your rehabilitation. And, we’ll be here every step of the way to answer your questions and cheer you on along your road to recovery.
