Shawnee Mission Health, soon to be AdventHealth Shawnee Mission, welcomes six physicians across various practices and geographic locations in greater Kansas City. The new physicians, who are now part of Shawnee Mission Physicians Group, include: Sara Lange, MD, Gynecologic Oncology; Kathryn K. Murray, DO, DABFM, Occupational Medicine; Dale G. Garrett, MD, MPH, FACOEM, Occupational Medicine; Kimberly Ponnuru, MD, FACS, General Surgery; Kathryn Gillen, DO, Pulmonary Medicine; and Jorge Guillen, MD, Family Medicine.
Dr. Dale G. Garrett joins SMH as the Medical Director for SMH's CorporateCare occupational medicine locations. He is Board-certified in Occupational Medicine. He earned a Bachelor of Science from the University of Kansas, a Master of Public Health from the University of Kentucky and a Doctor of Medicine from the University of Kansas School of Medicine. He completed a General Surgery and Occupational Medicine internship and residency at the University of Kentucky. Dr. Garrett has practiced both Emergency Medicine and Occupational Medicine and he served as the Medical Director at Stormont-Vail Work Care in Topeka, Kan. for 14 years before joining SMH.
Dr. Kathryn Gillen joins SMH as a pulmonologist with Shawnee Mission Pulmonary Consultants. She is Board-certified in Pulmonary Medicine and Internal Medicine and she is a member of the American Thoracic Society and the American College of Chest Physicians. She graduated with honors from St. Louis University with a Bachelor of Arts and she earned a Doctor of Medicine from Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences. She completed her Internal Medicine residency at the University of Minnesota, where she served as chief resident. In addition, she was involved with pulmonary care and general surgery research projects at three major hospitals. In June, she completed a Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine Fellowship at the University of Kansas.
Dr. Jorge Guillen joins Shawnee Mission Primary Care De Soto as a bilingual family physician. He is Board-certified in Family Medicine and is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians. He earned a Doctor of Medicine from the Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia in Lima, Peru, where he graduated in the top third of his class. He completed his residency at the McAllen Family Medicine Residency Program-UTHSCSA in McAllen, Tex. Dr. Guillen is a primary care physician with special interest in acute and chronic disease care, preventive medicine, women's health and adult medicine.
Dr. Sara Lange is a Gynecologic Oncologist and practices at the Shawnee Mission Cancer Center, Kansas Citys only certified member of the MD Anderson Cancer Network. She is Board-eligible in Gynecologic Oncology and Obstetrics and Gynecology. She is a member of the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and the Society of Gynecologic Oncologists. She earned her Doctor of Medicine from the University of Missouri-Columbia before completing her Obstetrics and Gynecology residency at Carolinas Medical Center. She then went on to complete a fellowship in Gynecologic Oncology at Washington University in St. Louis. Dr. Lange provides care for all types of gynecologic malignancies and performs laparoscopic and da Vinci Surgical System robotic procedures.
Dr. Kathryn K. Murray is Board-certified in Family Medicine and practices at SMH's CorporateCare North Kansas City location. She is a member of the American College of Osteopathic Physicians and the American Academy of Family Physicians. Dr. Murray earned a Bachelor of Science with honors from the University of Kansas and a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine Midwestern University. She completed an internship and Family Medicine residency at St. Joseph Hospital. Dr. Murray joins SMH after practicing Family Medicine in Colorado since 2007, most recently as a Family Practice and Occupational Medicine physician at Centura Health.
Dr. Kimberly Ponnuru is Board-certified in General Surgery and joins Shawnee Mission General Surgery. She is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons. She earned a Bachelor of Science from Pittsburg State University, where she ranked among the top 10 students in her class. She earned her Doctor of Medicine at the University of Kansas School of Medicine and completed her General Surgery residency at the University of Kansas School of Medicine-Wichita. She has a particular interest in laparoscopic surgery including inguinal hernia repair, cholecystectomy, and colectomy.
