We know going to the hospital isn’t fun, and we do our best to turn that expectation around. That’s why our pediatric unit is decked out in island decor, transporting kids to an exotic escape for their entire hospital stay. Your child will find a fun playroom equipped with video games and toys to promote childhood play. All of our pediatric rooms are spacious and private, and we provide beds and resources for families who wish to stay 24/7. We even have a Lagoon Room, which is our dedicated space to make your child feel comfortable during treatments.

Child Life Specialist

Our Child Life Specialist is a member of your child’s healthcare team delivering psychosocial care, developmentally appropriate education, therapeutic play, and emotional support appropriate for children and adolescents. Using play, self-expressive activities, age-appropriate medical preparation, and education empowers your child to cope in a positive manner.

Star Program

The S.T.A.R. program (named for "Sensory, Tactile, Auditory Rock stars") is built on specialized training for Child Life specialists, nurses and other clinicians, and a standardized treatment form accessible by the entire care team.

The program has helped special need patients receive routine preventative care with ease, making it easier to manage chronic diseases and receive timely diagnoses for new conditions.

Our hospital’s Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) is standing by 24/7 with experienced board-certified neonatal physicians and nurses specially trained to care for premature infants. For older children, the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) at AdventHealth Tampa is the only provider of critical-care services for children in north Hillsborough and east Pasco counties.

Your child's comfort is our priority. Our pediatric OR is state-of-the-art, and newly built in 2017, to include specialized child-centric equipment like our pediatric anesthesia machine. We also invite your child to choose from a range of colorful lights or pick a favorite song to play. And trust that long after your child’s procedure, we’ll be there to help nurture them back to a life of fun, play, and wellness.

You want to be here for every treatment and every test. We want you here, too. Our visiting policies allow for two parents or guardians to be here 24/7 with special identification bracelets. For your safety, and for your child's, we've outlined a number of guidelines for our Pediatric Care Center, including:

• Visitors to the Pediatric Care Center must go through security clearance.
• Two parents or caregivers will be provided bracelets for visiting.
• Temporary visiting passes for additional visitors can be obtained. Show your visiting pass to gain entry to our children's unit.
• Visiting will be paused during shift changes between 6:30 and 7:30 am/pm. Visitors in our unit during this hour must stay with the patient.
• Visitors over the age of 18 and must wear photo ID stickers.
• Visitors under the age of 12 must be approved by the health care team and be accompanied by a parent at all times.
• Visitors under the age of 18 aren't allowed to stay overnight and must comply with isolation precautions.
