A Helping Hand Supporting Your Whole Wellness
- Better Care Begins With an Expert Diagnosis
-
You might have experienced some digestive problems in the past — things like occasional stomach pain or bowel issues are a normal part of life — but if you’ve found blood in your stool or vomit, it's time to seek our help. Gastrointestinal (GI) bleeding can be caused by ulcers, hemorrhoids, and, in some cases, certain types of cancer. While specific symptoms will help determine your diagnosis, some of our GI bleeding tests include:
- Angiographies
- Blood Tests
- Colonoscopies
- Computed Tomography (CT) Scans
- Endoscopies
- Fecal Occult Blood Tests
- Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) Scans
- Radionuclide Scans
- X-Rays
Providing expert care starts with uncovering the reason for your bleeding. Once we determine the cause of your bleeding, we will work quickly to provide the treatment you need.
- Learn More About Gastrointestinal Bleeding
-
Gastrointestinal (GI) bleeding can happen anywhere in the GI tract, and can be classified as either chronic or acute. Chronic, or long-term, GI bleeding can be small, detected only with medical tests. Acute GI bleeding happens much faster and can lead to more concerning health problems, if not addressed quickly. Some of the most common symptoms of acute GI bleeding include:
- Black or Tarry Stool
- Bright Red Blood in Your Vomit
- Bright Red Blood Mixed with or Coating Your Stool
- Dark Blood Mixed with Your Stool
- Vomit that Looks Like Coffee Grounds
If you’re experiencing symptoms, the team of digestive health specialists at AdventHealth Tampa is here to help by diagnosing the cause of your bleeding and designing a care plan to help you heal.
- Leading-Edge Treatments for GI Bleeding
-
If you need treatment for gastrointestinal bleeding, you can trust in our team of GI doctors and specialists to provide expert care with leading-edge treatments for GI bleeding. Since bleeding can occur anywhere in the GI tract, we’ll design a care plan to meet your specific needs and symptoms. If you’re experiencing a bleed in your upper GI tract, the most common treatment is a minimally invasive endoscopy, which involves inserting a thin, flexible tube through your mouth. For lower GI tract bleeds, a colonoscopy may be the most effective approach. In certain circumstances, when endoscopies and colonoscopies aren’t enough, surgery may become the best treatment for your GI bleed. We’ll take the time to carefully explain your options so you can approach your treatment with confidence.
