Runners and walkers of all ages will lace up their sneakers for one of the largest and oldest races in the area as Metroplex Health System hosts its 30th annual Silver Classic 5K Run and 3K Walk on Sunday, March 20 beginning at 8:30 am.
Known as the “Silver Classic”, the race is part of the Cen-Tex Race Series, which offers local runners over a dozen races throughout the year. Last year more than 500 runners and walkers registered for the race, making it one of the largest in the series.
Participants of the Silver Classic are chip-timed and placed in gender groups based on age. Trophies are awarded to 1st Place Runner/Walker in each category and medals are awarded to 2nd and 3rd Place Runner/Walker in each category.
The Silver Classic is the primary fundraiser for the Metroplex Wellness department. The Wellness department is dedicated to promoting health and wellness in the community through free services and educational wellness classes.
“We are extremely thankful to the loyal participants and supporters who continue to help make this a successful race each year. Because of their support, we are able to provide free monthly vaccination clinics to area children, community health screenings, exercise classes, health education classes, and attend health fairs in the area to offer preventative health screenings and educational information,” said LaToya Ellis, wellness coordinator at Metroplex Hospital. “The Silver Classic allows us to provide these health services to the community, either free of charge or for a very nominal fee.”
Participants are encouraged to register in advance to receive the reduced registration rate of $20 for general entry and $15 for active duty military and veterans. Those who register early will receive a goody bag, BMI screening, a Silver Classic t-shirt and snacks/refreshments After Feb. 26, registration is $25 for general entry and $20 for active duty military and veterans. To register visit AdventHealth Central Texas or call Call254-519-8200.
