AH Gordon Ambulance Donation to Calhoun High

AdventHealth Gordon recently donated an ambulance to Calhoun High School for faculty to use as part of their Emergency Medical Services (EMS) pathway. The emergency vehicle will offer students opportunities to develop hands-on healthcare skills as they simulate real-world EMS scenarios.

Calhoun High School has branded the ambulance as “The Healthy Hive” and wrapped it in their official black and gold Calhoun Yellow Jacket colors.

"We are deeply grateful for the partnership and support of AdventHealth in promoting our EMT program,” said Brandi Hayes, EdD, Director and CEO of the Calhoun College and Career Academy. The clinical ride-alongs and the incredible Healthy Hive ambulance will be essential to the success of our program."

“What’s special about this ambulance donation is the impact it will have on our future workforce,” said Chris Self, president and CEO of AdventHealth Gordon. “The workforce challenge impacts all industries, and it is important that we partner with our local school systems to open the pipeline for future employees and team members.”

Introduction to Healthcare Science and Emergency Medical Technician are courses taught by Phillip Parker, CHS Class of 2007. Parker served for 15 years as a paramedic and then as a travel nurse throughout the Coronavirus pandemic. Parker’s experience and passion make his courses extremely popular among students.

In addition to Parker’s Emergency Medicine course, AdventHealth works closely with Calhoun High School, the College and Career Academy, and Georgia Northwestern Technical College to equip students pursuing their Certified Nursing Assistant certification. Additionally, high school seniors interested in pursuing careers in clinical and non-clinical areas spend time at AdventHealth as part of their work-based learning program. AdventHealth also hosts teachers each semester as part of a teacher externship program.

“We are very grateful for our partnership with AdventHealth Gordon,” said Casey Parker, principal of Calhoun High School. “Our goal at Calhoun High School is to equip our students with the knowledge and practical skills to make significant contributions in whatever route they pursue after graduation, whether it’s secondary education or entering directly in the workforce. AdventHealth is a tremendous partner, and we appreciate the ways they’re able to enhance our students’ educational experience.”
