Patient Resources at a Glance
Your focus should be on what matters most: getting better. That’s why we’ve gathered helpful resources in one convenient place.
Our Denver Hospital Services for You
Our goal is to provide an exceptional experience for every patient through excellence in clinical care, bedside manner and support that goes above and beyond. Here are some ways our Denver hospital is dedicated to making your stay as comfortable as possible.
- Food and Refreshments
-
We provide patients with the nutrition needed for recovery. We bring meals right to your room that can be customized for any diet and will follow your doctor’s orders.
You can also dine at our South Downing Café, open Monday through Thursday from 6:30 am to 7 pm, Friday from 6:30 am to 4 pm, and weekends and holidays from 7 am to 2 pm (closed 10 to 11 am).
Patients who opt for a quick bite can grab a snack at our vending machines, located next to the cafe and near our first-floor gift shop, or at our 24-hour Micro Market in the patient waiting area on the first floor.
- Porter Pharmacy
-
At our outpatient pharmacy, you can fill new prescriptions or transfer existing ones from your local pharmacy. We also sell over-the-counter medication and medical equipment.
The pharmacy is inside the first-floor gift shop and is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 am to 5 pm. We accept most major insurance plans. You can reach our pharmacy at Call303-778-2427.
- Personalized Pain Management
-
When your pain is well controlled, you feel better and heal faster. At AdventHealth Porter, we take pain management seriously and observe your pain levels on a 10-point scale.
Your care team will determine the best approach for controlling your pain. In many cases, both medical and non-medical treatments can help manage discomfort but, of course, vary by person.
Pain medication may be prescribed for you:
- To be taken as needed, which means you’ve been given a short-acting medication meant to be taken when you start to feel pain or before beginning an activity that causes pain
To be taken regularly, which means you’ve been given a long-acting medication meant to be taken at the same time every day
- Rehabilitation and Therapy
-
As part of our whole-person approach to care, you’ll have access to various therapeutic services designed to heal you in body, mind and spirit.
Physical Medicine and Rehab Services
Our physical, occupational and speech therapists will work to strengthen you and prepare you for life beyond your hospital stay. Your rehabilitation program will be designed to meet your goals and needs.
Music Therapy
At AdventHealth Porter, certified music therapists come to your bedside to play soothing music, and regional musicians perform free concerts in our common areas.
Pet Therapy
Our hospital’s volunteer team includes some very special four-footed partners. Our pet therapy dogs, and their handlers, bring an added measure of comfort to our patients. Let your nurse know if you want a visit from one of these special dogs.
- Planning Your Stay
-
Preparing for a hospital stay can help you feel more comfortable being away from home. You can prepare for your visit by packing:
- A credit card or check for any required insurance co-payment
- Medication list with dosages and frequency details
- Eyewear, dentures or other personal hygiene items
- Health insurance card
- Phone numbers for family and friends you may need to reach during your stay
- Photo identification
- Prior test results, X-rays or medical records, if requested by your physician
- Small comfort items like photos, books or magazines
- Workers’ compensation information, if applicable
Please leave valuables and your current medications at home. All the medicines you need will be prescribed by a hospital physician, dispensed by our hospital pharmacy and administered by your nurse, who will explain why the medications have been prescribed and any common side effects. Patients are not permitted to administer their own medications.
- At the End of Your Stay
-
Case managers and social workers are available to assist with your discharge needs. Our team will collaborate to determine the safest and most appropriate discharge plan for you, identify needed resources and offer support.
Before you leave our Denver hospital, you’ll be given post-care information, which may include:
- Activity limits you’ll need to follow during your recovery
- Equipment needed for recovery, with instructions on how to get items delivered to your home
- Medication management information
- Instructions for setting up any required follow-up appointments
Quick Links to Find What You Need
Whether you’re looking for billing information from a visit to our emergency room or planning an appointment with a doctor in a specialty like breast care or orthopedics, we’ve ensured the tools you need are just a click away.
A hospital stay can bring visits and services from multiple medical providers. And while we know it’s hard to plan for an emergency visit, if you have a scheduled health care service that requires a hospital stay, we recommend contacting your practitioners within the hospital to confirm they’re part of your insurance plan. You can also get information about billing practices and an estimate for your upcoming services. This will help you avoid any unexpected fees.
