Professional Nursing at AdventHealth Porter
Professional Nursing contributes to care of patients at AdventHealth Porter and the surrounding community through the following services:
- Adult and Geriatric Behavioral Health Care
-
AdventHealth Porter is one of the few area hospitals providing inpatient behavioral health care. Our nurses bring behavioral and geriatric care expertise to support patient diagnosis, treatment and healing. Nursing initiatives include providing a safe environment, ligature reduction, the development of new policies to support care based on evidence and enhancing patient safety.
- Bone and Joint Care
-
Nurses provide pre- and postoperative care to patients needing new joints or other surgical interventions. Nurses teach classes on what to expect while in the hospital, then support the patient and family through the hospital experience. Nurses prioritize early mobility and pain control to help patients get home as soon as possible.
- Cancer Care
-
Our AdventHealth Porter nurses provide evidence-based diagnosis and treatment unique to each patient. Our oncology nurses are nationally certified, providing a high level of expertise in providing chemotherapy therapy. Our nurse navigators support patients and connect them to hospital and community resources. Our radiation oncology nurses provide targeted treatments and assist patients in reducing side effects. Our nurses also facilitate community support groups to help patients manage their cancer experience.
- Cardiovascular Care
-
Our highly trained nurse practitioners coordinate cardiac testing for the early identification of heart disease. The TIA Clinic supports world-class outcomes for patients with stroke symptoms. Cardiac Catheterization Lab and Electrophysiology nurses support patients through skilled vascular procedures to improve circulation and collaborate with the Emergency Department to provide prompt interventions to reduce the negative effects of heart attacks. Telemetry nurses provide inpatients with support and monitoring to identify and manage cardiac symptoms and arrhythmias.
- Emergency and Trauma Care
-
Our AdventHealth Porter emergency and trauma nurses and AdventHealth ER and Urgent Care Southmoor nurses drove the implementation of protocols providing optimum outcomes for sepsis, geriatric, stroke heart attack, and mental health patients. Nurses triage patients to decrease wait times and provide prompt emergency care. Hospital emergency nurses support the achievement of the care supplied through Level III Trauma Certification.
- Intensive Care
-
Nurses care for patients who need critical care, ventilation support, ECMO, or CRRT around the clock. These ill patients require highly skilled nursing interventions. Intensive Care nurses have worked to reduce infections and improve patient mobility and comfort, supporting the patient and their family members.
- Medical and Surgical Care
-
Nurses care with compassion for patients needing general medical or surgical services. AdventHealth Porter medical and surgical units have worked to reduce patient falls and skin injuries. Wound care nurses apply expertise in preventing and healing open skin. Hospital vascular access nurses support the comfortable placement of intravenous and PICC lines so patients can receive antibiotics or other medications. Transplant nurses guide patients, families and living donors through the preparation, surgical and follow-up transplant processes. Case managers link patients to resources for successful discharge.
- Neurology Care
-
Nurses provide care to patients through the diagnosis, treatment and surgical intervention process. We staff a nurse stroke coordinator who leads the AdventHealth Porter Stroke Certification process, ensuring top-level care for stroke patients.
- Outpatient Care
-
Nurses support patients who may not need an inpatient stay but need care and treatment. Our endoscopy lab nurses prepare and care for patients needing procedures like colonoscopies. Interventional radiology nurses support patients through skilled vascular procedures to improve circulation. Infusion center nurses provide outpatient intravenous medications, including chemotherapy and antibiotics.
- Perioperative Care
-
Our skilled nurses support patients through preparation for surgery, assist during surgical procedures and provide support and care during recovery. Professional nursing organization standards have been implemented by nurses, including the time-out process, reduction of micro-organisms that can result in infections and team communication to track surgical instruments.
- Spine Care
-
Nurses provide care to patients through treatment and surgical intervention for spinal issues. Spine nurses collaborated with the interprofessional team to improve pain control and mobility for postoperative spine patients.
