Steven Nazario, MD, FACEP, FAAEM

Program Director

Dr. Nazario serves as the Program Director of the Emergency Medicine residency; a position he has held since the program’s inception. He received his medical degree from SUNY Downstate Medical Center in 1993. After serving as chief resident of the Jacobi-Montefiore Emergency Medicine residency, Dr. Nazario remained at Jacobi as an attending until 2003. Currently serves the American Board of Emergency Medicine as an Oral Board Examiner. His interests are focused on graduate medical education with particular attention on professionalism, ethics and physician wellness. Since 2006 Dr. Nazario has served as the Physician Chair of the AdventHealth’s Bioethics committee.

Andrew Little, DO

Associate Program Director

Dr. Little serves as the Associate Program Director. He is a 2012 graduate of Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine, and a 2016 graduate from the Doctors Hospital Emergency Medicine Residency in Columbus, Ohio where he served as a chief resident. After graduating he served as both the research and curriculum director at Doctors Hospital prior to coming to AdventHealth. He has research interests and experience in the areas of Airway Management, Vascular Access, Podcasting, and Educational Delivery Models. Outside of his clinical and administrative roles, he is a Co-Host for the EM Over Easy Podcast, and a regular contributor to Hippo Educations UC:RAP. He also serves as an editor for the Academic Life in EM blog, and is on the Editorial Board for EP Monthly. He is a national speaker for ACOEP, CORD, EMRA, many state ACEP meetings, and the Medutopia team.

Mary McLean, MD

Assistant Program Director

Dr. McLean is the Assistant Program Director for the AdventHealth Orlando Emergency Medicine Residency, and an Adjunct Clinical Associate Professor for the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine. She received her medical degree from the Oregon Health & Science University School of Medicine and completed her residency training at St. John’s Riverside Hospital in New York, where she served as Chief Resident and was selected as an ALL NYC EM Resident Education Fellow. She remained at St. John’s Riverside Hospital as an Assistant Residency Director and Institutional Review Board Chair until 2023 when she came to AdventHealth. Her professional interests include medical education, research, scholarly activity, public speaking, leadership and advocacy, bias, and diversity, equity, and inclusion. She has spoken nationally and internationally on the ED management of cardiac, neurologic, OB/GYN, neurologic, and traumatic emergencies, as well as on medical education, wellness, and career development topics.

Drew Jones, MD

Dr. Drew Jones serves as Ultrasound Director and Fellowship director at AdventHealth East Orlando for the AdventHealth East Orlando Emergency Medicine Residency. He completed his residency at the University of Michigan/St. Joseph Mercy Hospital Emergency Medicine Residency and Fellowship in Bedside Ultrasound at Stanford University. His research interests include medical education and advanced cardiac ultrasound.

Kristina G. Jacomino, MD

Assistant Ultrasound Director

Hello, my name is Kristina Jacomino and I am currently the Assistant Ultrasound Director at AdventHealth East Campus in Orlando, FL. I was born and raised in the sunny city of Miami, FL and graduated with my undergraduate degree in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Miami (Go Canes!). I spent my four years of medical school at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine, enjoying country music in Nashville, TN. I returned to my roots and completed my Emergency Medicine Residency at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami, FL. I then did my Ultrasound Fellowship at George Washington University in Washington, DC before being welcomed by the AdventHealth family.

Loice Swisher, MD

Director of Wellbeing

Dr. Swisher joined the core faculty in June of 2022 to serve as Director of Well-Being for the residency program. She is a Pennsylvania native graduating from Temple University Medical School in 1989 and the Medical College of Pennsylvania emergency medicine residency program in 1992. Dr. Swisher has worked with EM residents in the community setting for thirty years ultimately attaining the rank of Clinical Professor with the Drexel University College of Medicine. Her interests include graduate medical education, women's leadership, and wellness and resilience. She is a national speaker particularly on physician suicide prevention and has held leadership positions in AAEM, CORD, AMWA and the American Association of Suicidology. From 2020-2022, she was the inaugural chair for the AAEM Women in Emergency Medicine Section establishing section awards intentionally recognizing women's accomplishments, the EM-Bound Osteopathic Student series, and the EM-Bound IMG Student Series. In addition, she has written the blog Lions, Tigers and Bears for Emergency Medicine News since 2014 and currently serves as board member to EMedHome. The professional achievement most important to her has been the co-founding of the National Physician Suicide Awareness Day.

Maria Tassone, MD

Assistant Clerkship Director

Dr. Tassone serves as our Assistant Clerkship Director. She was born and raised in South Florida. She received her Bachelors in Molecular and Microbiology from the University of Central Florida. She graduated from Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine in Bradenton, FL in 2018. She then completed her residency at HCA/UCF Greater Orlando Emergency Medicine Residency Program, where she also completed a fellowship in Academic Medicine. During residency she was awarded the Resident Educator Award for demonstrating excellence in teaching and the ability to inspire others. Later, the resident class of 2022 gave her the Educational Excellence award for faculty commitment to resident education. She also completed the American College of Emergency Physicians Teaching Fellowship. Her passion is medical education, specifically gamification and innovative teaching in graduate medical education.
