Program Director Welcome
Welcome to AdventHealth’s Family Medicine Residency Program in Ocala! We’re thrilled to introduce you to our new 8/8/8, unopposed program located in the heart of Ocala, Florida – the Horse Capital of the World. Ocala is one of Florida’s fastest-growing cities, offering a reasonable cost of living and easy access to the amenities of Orlando, Tampa, and Jacksonville without the hassles of big-city life. Our mission is to nurture talented and dedicated family medicine residents into compassionate and clinically outstanding physician leaders who deliver comprehensive, whole-person care to their communities.
Our innovative Clinic First residency curriculum emphasizes the importance of the family medicine outpatient practice as the primary site for clinical training. You’ll have the opportunity to work closely with attending physicians across all specialties and immerse yourself in our whole-person care model. Here, you’ll guide your patients toward total wellness – mind, body, and spirit.
We are deeply committed to serving our community and ensuring health equity for all. Our program emphasizes providing care to underserved populations and working to eliminate health disparities. You will be part of a team dedicated to making a meaningful impact on the lives of those who need it most. We invite you to explore what we offer and we hope to meet you soon!

Curriculum
The curriculum at AdventHealth Ocala Family Medicine Residency Program is inspired by the Clinic First paradigm. It ensures that the outpatient family medicine residency practice provides the highest quality of patient care, clinical, and academic training and that residents spend a larger than usual portion of their time there. Residents will regularly see the members of their panel of patients while rotating through AdventHealth Ocala as unopposed residents in multiple medical specialties and services. They will also be able to work at children’s hospitals for concentrated, high-quality inpatient pediatric exposure.

Program Information
- Conferences
-
Conferences will be a mixture of relevant didactic lectures, procedural workshops, and simulations held in a block one afternoon per week and aimed to help residents get ready for in-training, board examinations, and real-life practice. This will be supplemented by clinical teaching on the inpatient and subspecialty services. In addition to local academic conferences, residents will be given specific training on maintaining wellness through residency and invited to be a part of wellness conferences and CME opportunities within AdventHealth.
- Research
-
All residents will participate in at least two scholarly projects during residency, one of which will be a quality improvement project. Each project will be done in teams with engaged faculty support and mentorship. Opportunities are available for presentation and publication at local, regional, and national conferences.
- Diversity & Inclusion
-
We are deliberate about achieving and maintaining diversity within our residency program. We aim for our faculty and residents to match the diversity of the patients that we care for. We are committed to creating an inclusive learning environment where all voices are heard and deemed important, and opportunities are shared fairly. Finally, we support mothers in medicine by providing comfortable lactation rooms and creatively applying time-off policies within the required regulatory frameworks.
