Dr. Richard is a Florida native, having grown up in central Florida. He graduated from the University of Florida with a Bachelor of Science and earned his medical doctorate at the University of South Florida College of Medicine. While in medical school he was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha honor society. He completed an Orthopaedic Surgery residency at the University of Florida and subsequently an Orthopaedic Surgery Sports Medicine Fellowship at the prestigious American Sports Medicine Institute (ASMI) in Birmingham, Alabama. There he trained with E. Lyle Cain MD, Jeffery R. Dugas MD, Benton A. Emblom MD, and James R. Andrews MD. During that time, he was the team Physician for Tuskegee University, Vestavia Hills High School, the SEC baseball tournament and the Birmingham Barons. He has also provided care to the Birmingham Stallions and Alabama Ballet.
Dr. Richard is heavily invested in education and sports medicine research. He has both published peer reviewed journal articles and written book chapters. He has won awards for both his education of residents and research into ulnar collateral ligament injuries. He serves as a reviewer for both the American Journal of Sports Medicine and the Orthopaedic Journal of Sports Medicine. He is an active member for the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine.
Dr. Richard knows the importance of physical therapy and rehabilitation. He strongly believes in a team approach, communicating with other medical providers and physical therapists to ensure his patients get comprehensive orthopedic treatment. - Education
