Meet Our Mom: Amanda P

The following is a first-person account of a real family's labor and delivery experience at AdventHealth for Women.

My name is Amanda Petruccelli and my husband, Perry and I welcomed our sweet baby boy, Cade into the world on July 18, 2024 at AdventHealth Orlando.

This was my first pregnancy and as you can imagine that comes with a lot of nerves and unknowns. The care I received at the Winter Garden office was absolutely incredible and that was shown through my labor and delivery as well.

My water broke at 38 weeks and 6 days while my husband and I were watching a show and it was truly like a scene out of a movie. We sprung up out of our bed and began gathering everything needed to head to the hospital. Luckily, we were over prepared and had our hospital bags packed and baby boy’s car seat already installed in our car.

When we arrived at AdventHealth Orlando we went to the OB ED where they confirmed my water did in fact break and from there I was brought up to our room on the L&D floor.

From the moment I arrived on the floor every nurse was nothing but accommodating and made the entire experience feel very personalized which my husband and I loved. They walked us through each step which helped someone like me who struggles with anxiety feel at ease. I want to give a special shoutout to Elizabeth N, RN for truly being the most positive and loving nurse as she walked me through labor and my entire delivery. Prior to my epidural she knew I hadn’t slept much and needed energy for delivery so she made me oatmeal and loaded me up with delicious popsicles. When my epidural took to my right side and not my left she advocated for me and had anesthesia come back as soon as possible to redo it. She truly just felt like a mother figure in the room with us and always had mine and Cade’s health and safety at the forefront.

I also have to give a big shoutout to Alex Aguiar, CNM who delivered Cade. He is so personable and such an expert in what he does. He had just gotten done delivering several babies before ours and you would never know as he made the experience feel that personal and not just like we were a number. After 30 minutes of pushing sweet baby boy Cade came into this world. Never in my wildest dreams did I think I would have such a positive birth experience but it was so refreshing after hearing several scary ones and for that we are forever blessed and thankful.

A few hours after delivery we were sent up to the mother/baby floor where we stayed for the next two nights. Each nurse there was just as amazing as the L&D floor. A special thank you goes to our nurses, Linh and Brittany for being SO helpful to new parents that didn’t know much about caring for a baby. We learned so much from both of them and are so grateful!

The amazing care even followed us into my 6 week follow up appointment at the AHMG OB/GYN at Winter Garden office. With my husband and family back at work Cade and I went to my appointment solo and the second we stepped foot in the exam room he began doing his hunger cry. Dr. Clare saw how stressed and flustered I was and immediately called one of the medical assistants to come into the exam room to hold and feed Cade while I was getting checked. That small act truly blew me away and I am so appreciative.

We couldn’t have had such a great pregnancy, labor and delivery without the wonderful team of experts at AdventHealth for Women. Thank you from the bottom of my husband and my hearts!!
