Expert Imaging Services for Whole Health

At AdventHealth Polk, we offer a range of leading-edge medical imaging technology services.

Bone Density Scan

Bone Density Scan

A bone density scan measures bone loss to test for osteoporosis. Osteoporosis results in more than 1 million hip, spine and wrist fractures annually. This disorder affects nearly half of all post-menopausal women, the largest group at high risk for osteoporosis.

Calcium Score Test

Calcium Score Test

Our advanced computed tomography (CT) technology allows us to perform preventive heart screenings like the calcium score test. This detailed and accurate heart scan detects the amount of calcium in your coronary arteries, allowing you to seek care or make lifestyle changes to help prevent heart attack or stroke. A calcium score test helps guide treatment for people with a low to moderate risk of heart disease.

Computed Tomography (CT) Scan

Computed Tomography (CT) Scan

Computed tomography (CT) provides full-range, best-in-class diagnostic imaging capabilities to examine the entire body using standard X-rays combined with a high-tech computer.

Using CT, we can evaluate many parts of the body, including the head, neck, abdomen, chest and pelvis.

Echocardiogram

Echocardiogram

An echocardiogram, also called an echo, uses sound waves to produce images of the heart. A computer records the images and creates a moving picture of your heart. An echo can help detect and determine treatment for heart disease, heart attacks and vascular disease that can lead to stroke. Unlike an X-ray, there is no radiation with this test.

Fluoroscopy

Fluoroscopy

Fluoroscopy, sometimes referred to as a real-time X-ray, produces a moving image of the body’s functioning organs. This noninvasive treatment allows us to diagnose your condition quickly and accurately.

HeartFlow Analysis

HeartFlow Analysis

Heart flow analysis provides our cardiologists with greater sensitivity and 99% accuracy, providing the data to create the most appropriate treatment plans. It eliminates the need for a catheterization procedure and stress for about 50% of patients.

Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)

Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) uses a powerful magnetic field, radio-frequency pulses and a high-tech computer to produce detailed images of organs, soft tissue, bone and virtually all other internal body structures. There is no exposure to radiation with an MRI, and it is among the safest and most versatile imaging methods.

Mammography

Mammography

Our 3D mammography exam detects up to 65% more invasive breast cancers than two-dimensional mammography. And it reduces false positives by as much as 40%. It is the only mammogram that is FDA-approved as "superior" for dense breast tissue.

Contrast-enhanced mammography (CEM) elevates breast cancer screening to a new level of imaging possibilities. CEM is faster and more comfortable than breast MRI, with less stress and lower noise levels. With comprehensive diagnostic studies that provide unparalleled detail, CEM is especially beneficial for women with dense breasts. It can uncover hidden abnormalities crucial to reducing missed and underdiagnosed cancers.

Nuclear Medicine

Nuclear Medicine

Using tiny amounts of radioactive substances called radiotracers, nuclear medicine identifies disease and evaluates functions within the body. Taken orally or by intravenous (IV) injection, radiotracers accumulate in targeted organs or tissue, giving off energy that is captured by a gamma camera. This screening detects conditions like cancer at some of the earliest possible stages.

Ultrasound

Ultrasound

Ultrasound imaging is a noninvasive screening that uses high-frequency sound waves to produce pictures of the inside of the body. Ultrasound images show the structure and movement of the body’s internal organs, as well as blood flowing through blood vessels.

X-Ray

X-Ray

Often called radiography, X-ray produces a two-dimensional image of the inside of the body. It’s used for routine studies, portable exams and in the operating room.

Advanced Technology for Lifesaving Results

AdventHealth Polk is one of only two hospitals in the greater area with one of the world's fastest and most accurate computed tomography (CT) scanners, the GE Revolution Apex CT Scanner.

Our best-in-class, low-dose CT machine unlocks images faster and in greater detail, allowing our doctors to see:

  • 99.8% of all heart blockages
  • The entire heart, including its blood flow and motion, in a single heartbeat
  • The earliest signs of lung cancer in a single low-dose scan
  • An entire brain scan in less than a second and a comprehensive 4D stroke analysis in less than five minutes
  • Detailed bone images

Our CT scanning technology provides sedation-free, low-dose scans of children and ultra-fast full-body trauma scans for all body types.

With this advanced technology, we can scan patients experiencing chest pain and other cardiac issues, stroke symptoms, urologic issues or trauma and get results back to the emergency department, surgeons and other providers in minutes. All of that translates into faster, more accurate diagnoses than ever before.
