Our Rehab Therapies and Services
Our licensed therapists provide intensive therapy, including lymphedema management, fall risk conditioning, Parkinson’s care, pelvic floor therapy, speech, occupational therapy and physical therapy. We maintain best-in-care continuing education and stay current with the latest research and techniques.
- Balance and Fall Risk Therapy
-
We offer balance and fall risk screening and a conditioning program using the BioDex Balance System™.
The Balance System helps our rehabilitation team perform balance testing, identify fall-risk candidates, determine ankle and knee status and establish stability limits.
The system also provides balance training, including stabilization, range of motion and weight-shifting exercises.
Combined with traditional physical therapy services like stretches, exercises and neuromuscular re-education, it can help patients return to their age-appropriate level of balance and regain independence in their daily tasks.
- Lymphedema Therapy
-
Our rehab therapists offer manual lymphatic drainage (MLD) therapy for patients with lymphedema, a buildup of fluid in the extremities that causes pain and discomfort.
MLD is a type of massage therapy used to drain excess fluid from the body and improve the overall functioning of the lymphatic system. MLD is combined with a program of compression bandaging, remedial exercise and patient education.
A physician referral is required, and patients must remain under close medical supervision. Anyone who exhibits swelling resulting from damage to the lymphatic system or chronic venous insufficiency resulting from surgery, chemotherapy or radiation treatment is encouraged to consult their physician about the effectiveness of this treatment for their condition.
- Occupational Therapy
-
Our occupational therapists work with individuals who need assistance to lead independent, productive and satisfying lives. Our focus is on restoring function in activities of daily living.
We treat people who have experienced the following conditions, including:
- Amputations
- Arthritis
- Injuries needing custom upper extremity splinting
- Hand, wrist and elbow injuries
- Joint replacements
- Parkinson’s disease
- Rotator cuff injuries
- Shoulder injuries
- Spinal injuries
- Strokes and head injuries
- Work-related injuries
We also assist with one-on-one self-care needs to keep our patients as functional and independent as possible. We look at musculoskeletal, cognitive and neurological needs in addition to adaptive methods and techniques after an injury.
- Parkinson’s Disease Therapy
-
Our staff therapists provide specialized LSVT LOUD® and LSVT BIG® treatment for individuals with Parkinson’s disease.
LSVT LOUD® is a speech therapy treatment that focuses on improving the "loudness" and voice quality of individuals with Parkinson’s disease and other neurological conditions.
LSVT BIG® uses the same principles to address smaller and slower movement patterns. By instructing patients in "bigger" movements, this treatment improves walking, balance and the ability to perform self-care tasks.
We also offer a free exercise class for individuals with Parkinson’s disease that emphasizes stretching and reaching motions and is performed in both sitting and standing postures. Our Parkinson's exercise classes are held on the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month in the rehabilitation center gym. Please call Call828-894-8419 for more information.

We also offer the modified barium swallow test, an X-ray that shows the complete swallowing process when given a variety of food and liquid consistencies.
We also offer other speech therapies, including:
