LAMBDA study: Longitudinal Assessment of Multidomain Brain data for early Detection of Alzheimer’s disease LAMBDA

Study Purpose: This study will be examining changes in memory and mental function and several biological variables in aging. Examining the biology underlying memory changes could influence our understanding of brain health and function in late adulthood including risk for Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias.

To be enrolled in this study, you must meet certain requirements. You may be eligible to participate if you meet the following criteria:

Study Duration: 3 years

Study Commitment: The study will measure various aspects of your health, and these measurements will be collected in two visits for approximately 2 hours per visit.  You would also be asked to return for follow-up visits once per year for three years from the beginning of the study (2 visits for 3 years = 6 visits total) to track changes in memory function and other biological variables.

Age: =>60 Years Old.

Sex: Male & Female

Conditions/Eligibility:
Inclusion Criteria:
Subjects must meet the following criteria for entry into the study:
1.     Male or female => 60 years of age at the time of consent.
2.     Understand and voluntarily sign an informed consent form.
3.     Fluent in English (defined as having spoken and read English every day for >10 years)

Exclusion Criteria
1.     < 60 years of age at the time of consent.
2.     Unable to communicate with the staff in English or read the informed consent.
3.     Subjects who don’t agree to sign the in-person consent or are unable to sign the consent form due to cognitive impairment.
4.     Currently undergoing substance abuse treatment
The inclusion and exclusion criteria will be reviewed at every follow-up visit (i.e., year 1, Year 2, Year 3).

Study Procedures:
Visit 1: In this visit we will give you details about the study, collect a small hair and blood sample from you and have you do several mental or memory tests on a computer and an iPad. You will also be completing several questionnaires. This visit should take about 2 hours. Visit 2: In this visit you will go into an MRI scanner so we can get images of your brain. This should take about 60 mins. An MRI scan is very safe and doesn’t involve any injections or radiation. It’s a very simple way of getting detailed information about your brain. Additionally, we will measure your blood pressure, as well as bone density and body composition using a DXA scan. This scan takes approximately 20 minutes. This visit should take approximately 2 hours.

Compensation:
If you complete all the assessments in these two visits, you will receive compensation. If you are unable to complete some of the assessments, we still invite you to participate and will compensate you for any assessments completed. The yearly follow-up visits will also have the same compensation.
