HONEY: Development of novel biomarkers for the early diagnosis of type 1 diabetes

Type 1 Diabetes (T1D) or Juvenile diabetes is an autoimmune disease projected to affect 5 million people, including 600,000 children in US alone, by the year 2050. There is currently no cure or effective prevention for T1D so it is critical to find new ways to identify people at risk for the disease at a very early stage. The purpose of this study is to measure the levels of certain substances (biomarkers) in the body that may indicate the triggers of Type 1 Diabetes, to find a better way to diagnose the disease, as well as to follow its progression.
