POSEIDON – Prevalence of systemic inflammation in patients with atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease and heart failure

We are doing this study to collect information about the number of people with cardiovascular disease who have high levels of inflammation throughout the body. Cardiovascular disease is a general name for diseases that affect the heart or the blood vessels. Cardiovascular disease is already known to cause some inflammation, but it is not well understood. For example, we don’t know why some people have higher levels of inflammation than others. This study will also test the participants for possible risk of kidney or liver disease. This is to see, if participants with these co-occurring diseases are more likely to have high levels of inflammation. The information we collect in this study can help us better understand diseases of the heart and blood vessels, and who is more likely to have high levels of inflammation.
