EPIC: Transcriptomic and epigenetic characterization of the subcutaneous fat depots in PCOS women

Polycystic ovary syndrome, or PCOS, is a hormonal condition where your reproductive hormones are out of balance. PCOS is also associated with an increased risk to become obese and a male-like fat tissue distribution in women (accumulation of fat in the upper body), which seems to be driven by increased androgen level in these women. The purpose of this study is to collect data to help researchers better understand the different ways that women store fat (commonly named apple shape versus pear shape) and why some women develop PCOS associated with an increase in upper-body fat. Another purpose of the study is to quantify different markers found in fat depots (abdominal or upper body fat and gluteal or lower body fat) of females with and without PCOS and evaluate their link with the severity of the syndrome.
